I'm sure Zidane is so upset with his punishment especially since he
already announced his retirement.

FIFA is a joke.

How many other players should be banned for using foul language?
What kind of precedent does this set?

Materazzi banned for two competitive matches.

September 2: Italy - Estonia(?)
September 6: France - Italy

How convenient.

Good. Put it behind you (pl.).

The only thing that would've made it perfect, would have been for
Materazzi and Zidane to meet at half-field, and shake hands before the
battery of photographers and fans.

But the world ain't perfect.

Zidane's sister giving a hug to Materazzi, *that* would have been
perfect.

I think that 16 Aug match is a friendly (same day as Ger - Swe), so it
wouldn't count. The two matches Daniele lists are the first two
qualifiers for Euro2008.

By the way, Italy is facing Lithuania, not Estonia on Sept 2.

A 2 match ban is in line with Frings' ban for a punch
and Rooney's ban for a stamp. I would not call it too
mild unless those other bans were too mild.

Let's imagine the exact reverse: Materazzi headbutting Zidane after a
verbal "provocation".
My guess:

- Zidane not punished, Materazzi 8 days.

- Press all over the world crying for poor Zidane and foaming at thug
Materazzi
(ok, this one wouldn't change).

So in sweden if you insult somebody and the other reacts hitting you,
it's in his rights, all in all you have to expect it.
Good, I will remember to bring an helmet when I come to sweden.

The interesting poll, though, would be knowing what the danes think
about it...

No precedent, this is an ad personam thing. Zidane is more equal than

Materazzi is a champion, he scored in the final. Blatter refused to
reward italy after the match: this is a scandal. It explains why they
punished materazzi.

I disagree. Anybody that has a even small knowledge of football knows
that players insult eachother all the time. Zidane surely did it may
thousand
times in his career himself. So what happened shows that Zidane is
a lier and an hypocrit, besides having a poor control of his nerves
when
he is not winning :o))).

So the first thing Materazzi must do, when meeting Zidane again, is
to ask him how is that whore of his sister, obviously keeping ready
to smash his head if he tries to get near...
and more... each italian player, during the game, will be asking the
french players how their mother and sisters are getting along :O))))

Materazzi? No way, he=B4s a thug and always was a disgrace to football.
But he should not be punished for some silly verbal insults, something
most of the players do most of the time. Reprimanded maybe, but not
punished. L

Ok...let's prepare to see how many times a player will be punished for
saying something like Materazzi tell to Zidane. Considering that during
a football match usually 22 players say bad words, uhm...we're going to
see 50% of the matches in a season for referee provisions.
Absurd...Fifa fuck off...you're jocking.

According to me, it was right:
Zidane: out for 1 year
Materazzi: nothing.

Zidane headbutt gets the same penalty as Mastroeni's ill-advised tackle and
DeRossi's elbow to McBride's head gets a worse penalty.

FIFA is a joke. Zidane is a thug and a LeTerroiste.

Materazzi is a champion and the only man to score a goal in the World

I was just thinking of that. Swedes, otherwise decent, are rather
naive when it comes to recognizing and dealing with criminals,
possibly due to an egotistical sense of democracy. As a result of a
knee-jerk assumption that anybody fleeing from lesser democracies or
regimes must be victims, Sweden has become a safe haven for criminals
from the third world.

3-2 is not an equal punishment, it's pretty evident.
and it's a clear message by Fifa, since Zidane has retired anyway, a 5
match ban would have had no effect, but this is a giant excuse to
recover the mess he made in his last match, to make him appear a
victim and let him go among the saints of football.
