The deadline for doing so remains a ways away, but Derek Fisher still hasn't
reported for a physical exam to complete the trade of the veteran guard from
Golden State to the Jazz.

In the five days since the deal was formally announced, Fisher hasn't spoken
with Utah media, either - despite repeated requests through intermediaries
including his agent's office and the team.

And his initial reaction to news of the swap, made to a California
newspaper, made it seem he wasn't exactly thrilled.
Franchise officials, however, aren't worried.

"We traded for him, and we received his contract, and we expect him to
report," Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor
said.

O'Connor took the somewhat extraordinary step of traveling to California to
meet with Fisher earlier this month, after the trade had been agreed to but
before league rules permitted it to be made official.

Last week, however, Jazz owner Larry H. Miller shed light on the discussion,
saying Fisher told O'Connor, "I don't have anything against you guys," but
that he was "pretty sure I was going someplace else" and "had my heart set
on a couple of places."

It's a non-issue. Neither side is in any particular hurry.
Fish has already spoken to the team's equipment manager, AK,
and some of the other players. He's not holding out or
anything.

Perhaps he's worried that there are screens on the Delta Center's doors

I think Fred is referring to the fact that Fish was never very good at
handling screens or picks when he was trying to guard the opposing
point guard.

Can't really blame Fish for not wanting to go to Utah. But given the
amount of money that he's due, I don't have much sympathy for him.

Why? They are on the rise with a nucleus of good young talent that barely
missed the playoffs and Sloan has already said he is excited about getting
Fischer.

Yeah, I'd say that's still true.

Me either. Think of all the wives he can afford. Bill Paxton, eat your

I love DF but am calling this one a toss-up:

That wasn't meant as a dig against the team, but rather the state. I've
never been to Utah but from my limited knowledge it doesn't seem like
the most exciting place to live.

That sounds bright. You might want to go visit someplace before you
comment.

Mountains within walking distance from your front door, desert a
half-day's drive farther, appeals to many people. Salt Lake is actually
fairly liberal, but Utah IS a "good clean fun" kind of place. Party
animals need to go elsewhere.

"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time." Stephen Wright

But seriously, living downtown, I can get myself to 10,000 feet in a day
by walking, if I really wanted to.

The thing about SLC is that the conservatives are very conservative, but
there's a pretty big scene of people who go wild rejecting the mormon
authoritarian streak. It can be a great party town (although it's pretty
darn white, which makes some blacks uncomfortable).

Oh Jesus, you sissy, get a grip. You think it's fun to hear people make
"rat-a-tat" noises and scream "AHL CAPOWN! AHL CAPOWN!" everytime they
find out I'm from Chicago? Well, no, it's not unless they have a funny
accent like rednecks from Jim Crow, Alabama or are cowardly prigs like
the French.

Ghost,

ROTFLMFAO...Ahl Capown??? Never heard that one before, ever. I voted
for Ditka in the 1988 primary for President. As far as Utah, you
ruined my vision of it when you pointed out that there is a large gay
contingent that is widely accepted. Are there no more "middle america"
towns left???
