Ok Mark, what about the drunken pack of Aussies who formed an almighty
rugby scrum and tried to knock over one of the stones at Stonehenge?

I knew someone who I went to college (northern Italian) with here in LA
who's dad ran the dining room at a famous celebrity hangout who originally
vetoed his son's marriage to an otherwise terrific lady because her family
was originally southern Italians...
There's some truth to your statement-but in this case, my neighbor (and his
party) were part of a corporate junket with a major WC sponsor.
I always had the feeling that southern Italians in general, and Sicilians in
particular, were considered by northeners to be one step short of being an
Arab.....

My current top 2 are Glacier and Zion. Yosemite has been just far enough
away from my two places of residences (It's really not on the way to
anywhere) that I haven't gotten to it. I had reservations at the park hotel
in Aug of 2003, but I got laid off in July of that year and had to cancel
them.

Well this is somewhat true in Germany as well. The northern Germans
(mostly Protestant) think the Bavarians in the south (mostly Catholic)
are hillbillies. One article I read had some snotty crap about Germans
in the south actually attending church regularly - like it was a bad
thing. The made them out to be fundamentalist religious zealots.
The big joke is the Bavarians have better weather and the Alps are
right there. Munich is far more appealing than Hamburg.
Yeah Italians always ask each other "where are you from" and many do
not like each other for that reason. It does not have to be south or
north. The Italians joke about some German tourists being arrogant,
pushy & pompous but the northern Italians sometimes can make Germans
look charming.

Hate??? Where do you get this rubbish from???

Northern Italy wasn't a paradise after WW2, it was devasted like the rest of
Italy.
Many Northern Italians migrated, almost as much as Southern Italians, for
economical reasons and because of the instability of North-East Italy.

Are you Italian? Do you ask where other Italians come from?
You would know anyway because of their accent.
Maybe you're not Italian, or you would know this.

It's like every where else, prejuduce only amongst the ignorant.
